Looks like we had some technical difficulties with our gift guide auto uploading this week – whoops! No worries, we’ll take it back to basics, and just do it manually. Thanks for nothing, computers! Alrighty, that aside – back to the holiday cheer! Pass that egg nog, please, and settle in for the next installment of Wrapper’s Delight. Today, we look to the past to make beautiful things for now…

Just like Old Times

Want your guy to smell like a million bucks? Or maybe you’re just a dude trying to, well, class things up a bit. Here’s what you should do – take spearmint, lavender, lime and vanilla, set it all on fire, and then distill it. Trust us. That’s what Burning Barbershop essentially is, our best selling scent from D.S. & Durga. Made in small batches from old-world techniques, this guy/girl duo from Brooklyn have made a name for themselves by combining flowers, herbs, grasses, and oils in the most eclectically pleasing ways possible. Other favorites of ours include Mississippi Medicine (birch tar, viola, white spruce, incense & cypress) and the Orris Root (Iris-flower extract with a cedar/violet note), all of which are in stock. $98 for 50ml.

Hot Hot Heat

French ’76 is local designer Erin and her gorgeous upcycled necklaces. Every item (including the chains) have had past lives as sewing kits, keys, pencils, lockets, and other bits & bobs but have found loving homes together as adornments for your neck. Our personal favorite are the vintage lighters which, with just a touch of lighter fluid, are ready to spark a good time. There are a few different styles, but all are one of a kind unique, and they’re $65 each.

Knot a problem at all

Rxmance has made these super cool totes, hand knotted from over 20 plastic grocery & trash bags, so you can carry around all your crap stylishly. These hold a surprising amount of weight, too – we stuffed one with a laptop, textbook, water bottle and a set of gym clothes and it withstood our rigorous testing standards with flying colors. Perfect for an all-around carryall or for the beach…yes, it will be warm again someday. We promise. It’s also available in a striped version too, and both are $75.

Come visit this weekend x

Here we go, full swing into the holiday season. We have something for even the most finicky people on your list – from office Secret Santa to a special significant other, city to country dwellers, and store exclusives to all-around seasonal necessities. We’ve got something you want to give – we promise!
Add us to your daily blogroll for our recommendations, new deliveries, staff favorites, and last-minute ideas for everybody. Let’s get things started, shall we?

Today’s picks are some of Shari’s (the owner) favorite items in the store…

Original Punk-rock Photography: Mark Morrisroe

After surviving a rough childhood and teen years as a prostitute (he was once shot by a client), Mark Morrisroe found his calling as an innovative & controversial photographer, who also performed in drag under the name Sweet Raspberry, co-founded the punk zine Dirt, and eventually graduated from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston with honors. After moving to New York City in the late 70′s, he began to focus in on photography as his storytelling medium, with Polaroids composing much of the base.

“Most of his photographs are portraits–of hustlers, lovers, friends and of himself–or hand-painted photograms. Morrisroe is also famed for his X-ray self-portraits, which show the bullet lodged near his spine after his shooting. All of his output carries this reckless, go-for-broke character, and an edge of urgency and necessity. After his death in 1989, more than 2,000 Polaroids were found among his possessions. This first comprehensive monograph compiles photographs and ephemera from the early punk years to Super-8 films, photograms and the late self-portraits. More than 500 photographs are reproduced here, alongside essays and an extensive biography.”

In today’s world of digital photography & manipulation & smartphone filters, Morrisroe’s works are truly breathtaking in their depth of character and mysterious colors & composition. Limited copies are available, and are $65.

Synopsis reworked from artbook.com

Sweet Swedish shades

E&E Sunglasses are exclusively available at Reward in the US – and the Bastad is one of their (and our) best selling styles. An updated take on a classic shape, the rounded frame gives a nod to retro styling but is contemporary with a clear, green resin instead of an opaque color. The lenses can also be replaced with prescription if desired. Clean, preppy, and stylish – for guys or girls – and also available in solid black if the green’s too kooky. $98 & comes with soft case & cleaning cloth.

Last night a DJ saved my life

The TMA-1 are studio-quality headphones that will satisfy everyone from the professional DJ to the casual listener. Tested & endorsed by top-notch producers & performers such as James Murphy, Matthew Dear, A-Trak and Madlib, amongst others – these ‘phones give “pro-quality performance with modern appeal”. Comes with two cables (one coiled, one non-coiled with mic for smartphones), soft but durable zippered travel case, 2 sets of earpads and technical spec documentation. We love this item, and the sound is unbelievable. Stop in and try them out! $240, limited quantity available.

Hopefully this gets your gears turning. Come back daily for more ideas and in-store specials!
We love you x

The West is Dead is a collaboration of two friends who met while working in the woods of northern Montana. Concerned for the dying tradition of American craftsmanship they started a premium men’s line handmade in the USA. Each garment is designed and built with emphasis on functional construction, subtle styling & details, and an obsession with using only the finest quality raw materials. Fully-taped inner seams, selvedge denim from Japan, organic cotton knits and forged hardware are the mainstays of the collection. Additionally, part of the brand’s mission is to also preserve, protect, and reclaim the American West by donating a portion of its profits to a selected charity. Do good for the economy and for your personal style – we’re liking that, alot. Here’s a portion of what we have in store now:

The chino is made from a 10-ounce duck canvas – a tightly-woven cotton canvas that is light enough to wear every day, but sturdy enough for some serious wear & tear. We have cranberry & dark grey in stock, and they’re $149.

The crewneck sweatshirt is made from a heavy slub cotton french terry and is fully reversible – sewn on vintage flat lock machines in Southern California, and cold washed for a soft, broken in feel. Double v-stitch detail at the neck, front & back. We have cream & sage in stock, and they’re $98 each.

We are proud to be the exclusive stockist in Philadelphia – call or email us for more information!
